The park is characterized by the expansive Nxai Pan, a fossil lake bed spanning approximately 40 km2 and adorned with a cluster of ancient baobab trees famously known as Baines’ Baobabs, named after the renowned explorer Thomas Baines.
The geological marvels of Nxai Pan National Park are intertwined with the formation of the adjacent Makgadikgadi National Park, both stemming from the prehistoric Makgadikgadi Lake.
